Greatness
October 30th, 2007
Each one of us has a heart filled with greatness. Yet we often cannot see it, because we get impressed by our mistakes, flaws, and limitations. We are so aware of our shortcomings that we overlook the greatness that underlies our limitations.
People feel it is clever to see the flaws of others, feeling a sense of satisfaction in pointing them out. People often think it is helpful to let a someone know what his or her flaws are, as if people are so unaware of who they are.
What we miss is the perfection of our own hearts, and the hearts of others. The greatness of the heart is everywhere, if only we had the eyes to see it. How is it done? Emphasize the inhalation. Breathe in the hearts of those around you, especially those you admire and those who annoy you.
To remind yourself that you’re looking for the greatest qualities of the human heart, invoke the greatness of the other person. Whenever you say “great”, you’re invoking the source of all being, which resides in the heart, and you’re tuning yourself to the great qualities of the four dimensions of the heart.
When you see a deep heart in someone, appreciate it. When you see an elevated heart, praise it. When you see a broad heart, associate yourself with it. When a forward heart appears, acknowledge its courage and creativity. When you find a full heart, stand in awe and wonder before it.
