Question about masculine and feminine emotions

November 9th, 2007

Hi. Just a Buddhist in disguise - kind of sensitive subject, that I want to keep separate from RL.Been a Buddhist for a while, sitting daily. I’m comfortably biologically male. But I live alone & my few friends are more likely to be female than male.I’m just wondering if anyone else has noticed a change in thought, a change in emotion, as a result (?) of sitting and practicing negation of ego ? Call it getting in touch with my feminine side if you like. I have no desire to become a physically constructed female. Just finding myself seeming to understand and associate with female emotion, than male.

Don’t forget, look at the Yin/Tang symbol - it has a little female in male & male in female. A little black in the white & a little white in the black.

I’m beginning to think this is an object lesson in escaping duality.

Teagan

Dear Teagan,

It is natural to want to experience the whole scale of emotions, from expressive, creative, courageous, powerful — emotions of glorification — to feelings of tenderness, connection, sensitivity — emotions of surrender. We often understand this dichotomy in terms of gender, masculine and feminine. But each one of us longs to experience both sides of the spectrum in the ways that appeal to each of us.

Whatever emotions you’re feeling, this is good. Celebrate your emotion. In fact, go deeper into it. Go past the point where you can label the feeling masculine or feminine, positive or negative, tender or powerful. Go so deeply into the feeling that it becomes simply emotion itself, so much bigger than you or me or anything.

This is done by making the breath deep, full, and rhythmic, and breathing in and out of your heart. Take the intention of opening your heart and diving deeply into your emotion. Your heart will blossom and transform.

God bless you.

love,
Puran and Susanna
