“I don’t know if you know how much a challenge it is to do step-parenting? But because as a step-parent, you are asked, you are challenged, to be really a mother, to give all and to understand deeply, and to be available…At one point I had four boys living with me from the age of two to eighteen…and my heart was really stretched to the edge

    Susanna,

Thank you for sharing this interview with us. I marvel at your life story and appreciate so the model of your living from the heart. I am particularly moved as you recounted the challenge of step-parenting:

“I don’t know if you know how much a challenge it is to do step-parenting? But because as a step-parent, you are asked, you are challenged, to be really a mother, to give all and to understand deeply, and to be available…At one point I had four boys living with me from the age of two to eighteen…and my heart was really stretched to the edge…So I think you really need to have a heart, you really need to be there with your full heart, you need to feel and you need to be there, and there is not much that you can expect back.”

I am finding these practices of energizing the dimensions of my heart useful in helping me to “parent” my aging parents more generously and effectively.

    Patrick
