Question about Heart Rhythm Meditation and MS
December 13th, 2007
Do you know if Heart Rhythm Meditation is possible for someone with Multiple Sclerosis, given this disease’s negative effect on muscle control and thus the possible impact on diaphragmatic breathing? Has anyone had direct experience with adapting HRM to this special health challenge?Lynn M.
Dear Lynn,
I know of two people who have MS and practice Heart Rhythm Meditation. I feel that increasing the breath capacity, called Vital Capacity, is essential in countering the progressive effects of the disease.
So if you can squeeze your diaphragm and abdominal muscles at the end of your exhalation to force a complete breath, I urge you to do it. The inhalation which follows will be very powerful, sending life energy throughout your body. It is also important to practice feeling your heartbeat in all different areas of your body. This will increase nerve growth, sensation and control.
Blessings to you; may your disease abate and your heart’s strength ever increase.
With love,
Puran
