How do I get started?

Thursday, December 6th, 2007
I came across your web site back in Feb. I had a heart attack then and while recovering I was looking for information about how to heal my heart and found this site. Since the heart attack I have had panic attacks and been in and out of the hospital, thinking I was having another attack. The doctors put me on lots of medication including Xanax. My drinking increased and I started eating the pills like candy. By July the dam busted. My mind and heart seemed to explode. I was awake for several days, as I could not sleep. It was if I had been poisoned. I began to hallucinate. I immediately quit the pills and the drinking but this state of mind continued for several weeks. It was very frightening for a couple of weeks. I thought I was losing my mind.

Things have calmed down. There are still some residual effects, like my ears ring all the time. It is almost as is I had been struck by lightning or electrocuted and I am feeling the after-effects. (more…)

What helps a person prepare for death?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007
Dear Puran,
I read with great interest your posting and agree totally with your integration of the heart rhythm as the key to a more complete spiritual awakening. However, I have a dilemma, I am presenting a class this Saturday on The Soul’s Journey by Hazrat Inayat Khan.
The first half will go into the incoming soul and and is similar to re-birthing, I am quite comfortable with what I have to work with in that regard having worked with Murshida Vera Corda for over 25 years. The second half is on the outgoing soul. In my opinion, one of the important offerings we have, is to ameliorate our western cultures fear of death. It has been said often by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan that meditation is a rehearsal for death, and I was planning on structuring the meditation on the samadhi practice and thereby demonstrating that one doesn’t need the body to experience life. You seem to have strayed away from this method and I was wondering if you have any thoughts on the process of overcoming the fear of death in relation to the meditative process you have described in your posting.

“Live lives and death dies” — HIK

“The process of dying is so serious that the dying person is beyond the reach of the living person, so it is better to leave them to their own higher thoughts, what they are feeling at the moment.” — HIK

Question about Kundalini and mental health

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007
I BELIEVE my Sister is having a premature KUNDALINI experience PLEASE HELP
Like i’ve said i believe my sister is going through a KUNDALINI experience. I HAVE done my research in the matter and found that she fits the profile. I am writing because i do not have the expertise to truly HELP her in this MATTER. WE were worried for her safety so we have put her in a psychiatric ward, but if they do not have the concept of a KUNDALINI experience then how can they help. they are treating her with a “Sigmund Freud” mentality, and not considering the “Carl Jung” possibility that the HUMAN is composed of both PHYSICAL and SPIRITUAL.
PLEASE if you or anyone you Know is in the field of KUNDALINI experiences

Question about Atrial Fibrillation

Monday, November 19th, 2007
Dear Puran and Susanna,
Thank you for your work on the Four Dimensions of the Heart. I am interested in coming to one of your workshops. My question is have you worked with people with heart arrhythmias? I have atrial fibrillation and it seems to be moving now from “transcient”, where most of the time I was not having episodes to “persistent” (more and longer episodes). It is possible if I sign up for the workshop, I will be having an AF episode. I read and enjoyed your book, “Living from the Heart”.
Best Regards,
Marilyn

Question about masculine and feminine emotions

Friday, November 9th, 2007
Hi. Just a Buddhist in disguise - kind of sensitive subject, that I want to keep separate from RL.Been a Buddhist for a while, sitting daily. I’m comfortably biologically male. But I live alone & my few friends are more likely to be female than male.I’m just wondering if anyone else has noticed a change in thought, a change in emotion, as a result (?) of sitting and practicing negation of ego ? Call it getting in touch with my feminine side if you like. I have no desire to become a physically constructed female. Just finding myself seeming to understand and associate with female emotion, than male.

Don’t forget, look at the Yin/Tang symbol - it has a little female in male & male in female. A little black in the white & a little white in the black.

I’m beginning to think this is an object lesson in escaping duality.

Question about heat during meditation

Monday, November 5th, 2007
Hello,
I have began practicing meditation following the instructions in your book Living from the Heart for about three weeks, concentrating on my breath and focusing on my heart. Now, I am in chapter 6 of your book and would like to know for how long I need to practice the full exhalation meditation (I began two days ago doing 10 full exhalation breaths followed by the meditation where I breathe normally and try to focus on my heart) before I should go on to the next exercise: retained breath? The first time I tried the 10 full exhalation last Saturday, I began to feel extremely hot in my body about 30 minutes later, as if I had hot flashes; I am 49 years old, could it trigger pre-menopausal symptoms or is it a normal reaction? I also have a low metabolism rate, I usually am cold when I do not move physically. Are there any psychological, emotional, spiritual changes that may occur when practicing these breathing exercises? How many times a day do you recommend I practice the 10 full exhalation breaths? I do notice that I would not fully exhale when I normally breathe, I usually find it more difficult to inhale than to exhale. My mother has been diagnosed with bi-polar disease since she was 60 years old, she is now 79 years old and I have been in therapy for many years now as I have been sexually abused as a child by my father. Because of my dysfunctional past, do you think that by practicing the heart meditation it will heal my heart?

Thank you very much for your advice as I don’t have anyone to refer to as I live in Montreal, Quebec and know no one else who practices this type of meditation.

Question about the Fire Breath and sexual desire

Friday, October 26th, 2007
Dear Puran.
I have been practicing the heart meditation on my own for a while and I’m having a great experience. One day I could see a heart beating in every object and element around me. Thank you for sharing such a great way to find our unity .
My problem is, each time I do the fire breath I feel heat in my body, which I understand. Sometimes I feel my head very heavy which is OK. But my concern is that lately I’ve been having an increase in my sexual desire immediately after the meditation and sometimes during the meditation. Is this a normal feeling? Or am I doing something wrong to attract negative energy around me? Most of the time I feel close to Light, to God ,to LOVE during the meditation. I worry because my intention is pure but why is this happening?
Please reply.
With Love
Nour

Question about drugs for depression and bi-polar disorder

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007
Hi Puran…
I have been having a dialogue with some people about this subject and I am very interested in your opinion.

What do you think about the use of psychotropic drugs in the treatment of depression and bi-polar disorder?

Thanks for listening!

Gender and stress

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

This is a very exciting article which we already know instinctively, but here it is demonstrated through science. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and nurture your friendships even more.

http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/gender/tendfend.html

The article basically says that men and women respond to stress in different ways, and that relating to friends releases the hormone Oxytocin (sometimes called “the love hormone”) in women, though not in men, because men release more testosterone when under stress, which combats the effect of Oxytocin. The study reminds us not to compromise our relationships when under stress - that’s the time we need them the most!

Excercise for Life: Width

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007
If there is anyone with whom you would not like to be alone in an elevator, that is your signal that a reconciliation is needed, for the health of your own heart. Take the initiative to resolve your differences with that person so you do not have to fear them or be embarrassed by them. This will bring peace and contentment.

This exercise develops the width of the heart.
